Within the INBUILT project, LEITAT will host the session "Innovative Solutions for Circular Construction: From Development to Market Uptake" from 10:30 to 12:00 on December 3, 2026. The session is part of the official programme of Sustainable Places 2026, and will bring together European projects, industry representatives, researchers and policy makers to explore how innovative circular construction solutions can successfully move from demonstration to large-scale market adoption.
The session will present complementary approaches covering the entire circular construction value chain, including circular renovation, selective deconstruction, urban mining, reuse of photovoltaic panels, construction and demolition waste (CDW) valorisation, and biomaterials for construction. Beyond the technical innovations, speakers will address the regulatory, certification, standardisation and market barriers that continue to limit the uptake of sustainable solutions across Europe.
By combining experiences from ongoing European initiatives with a policy perspective from the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy, the workshop aims to identify practical pathways for accelerating the transition towards a low-carbon and circular built environment. The event will conclude with an interactive round-table discussion examining how Europe can bridge the gap between innovative design approaches, circular products and real market deployment.
Participants will gain insights into emerging technologies, enabling policies, business and regulatory challenges, and opportunities for collaboration to advance circularity and decarbonisation in the construction sector.

AGENDA
Moderator: Dr. Sara Dimovska - LEITAT, Spain
10h 30 – Welcome (Speaker: Marco Mori – LEITAT, Spain) Project Inbuilt
Description: The challenge of sustainable and circular construction: multiple pathways to circularity. Introduction to the complementary approaches, solutions and innovations driving the transition towards a more circular built environment.
10h 40 – 1st Presentation: Circular Renovation and Deconstruction (Speaker: Prof. Dr. Magdalena Zabek, TU Dortmund, Germany) Project AEGIR & Automated Selective Deconstruction
Description: Presentation of two complementary projects addressing circular renovation and dismantling: AEGIR, a prefabricated façade renovation solution, and Automated Selective Deconstruction, focused on the selective dismantling and recovery of construction materials.
10h 50 – 2nd Presentation: Second-Life PV Panels (Speaker: Luc Federzoni, Solreed, France) Project Inbuilt
Description: Methodologies for assessment, repair and reuse of photovoltaic panels and key barriers to market deployment.
11h 00 – 3rd Presentation: Construction materials based on CDW-Aerogel (Speaker: Dr.-Ing. Marina Stipetic, Materials Testing Institute, University of Stuttgart, Germany) Project SNUG
Description: New advanced construction materials from CDW & barriers for their implementation.
11h 10 – 4th Presentation – Database of biomaterials in construction – (Speaker: Pamela Carrillo, Head of the Biomaterials Area, Sustainable and Efficient Construction Department, ITEC, Spain)
Description: Addressing the lack of specific regulations about biomaterials in buildings by developing criteria to verify bio-based origin, facilitate the inclusion of biomaterials in construction databases, and support their market uptake. The presentation will also discuss certification requirements and the key barriers limiting wider adoption.
11h 20 – 5th Presentation – Luxembourg Building Decarbonisation Roadmap (Speaker: Dr. Paul Schosseler, Conseiller, Responsable cellule construction durable, Ministère de l’Économie, Le Gouvernement Du Grand-Duché De Luxembourg,)
Description: Insights into policy priorities, regulatory drivers, and market barriers affecting the deployment of sustainable construction solutions, providing a local perspective on pathways to accelerate their adoption.
