The INBUILT project took part in Sustainable Places 2025, held in Milan from 8-10 October 2025, one of Europe's leading conferences on research and innovation for the built environment. The event gathered EU-funded projects, policymakers, and industry experts to explore practical solutions for making buildings smarter, more energy-efficient, and climate-resilient.
INBUILT contributed to two thematic workshops: “Smart Readiness in Action: Unlocking Energy Efficiency and Comfort in Buildings” and “From Waste to Worth: Circular Pathways to decarbonise the built environment”.
Representing INBUILT, Keovathana Run (Université Côte d’Azur) joined the panel discussion of the workshop Smart Readiness in Action, which focused on how the Smart Readiness Indicators (SRI) is driving smarter and more sustainable building practices across Europe. During the session, Keovathana Run presented how the project contributes to the material and envelope foundations of smart readiness. While many initiatives address SRI through digital tools and control systems, INBUILT demonstrates that passive material intelligence, achieved through low-carbon, bio-based, and recycled materials, creates the stable indoor environments that allow smart systems to work more efficiently.
The presentation featured INBUILT's ten innovative products on three demonstration sites: a new residential building, a renovated community facility, and a tiny movable house. Across the three sites, various monitoring systems will be implemented to capture data on indoor climate, energy use, and material performance, depending on each building's characteristics and scope. These data provide practical evidence linking material innovation with comfort, energy efficiency, and resilience, supporting the evolution toward performance-based SRI assessments.
On October 10th, Marco Mori represented the INBUILT project at the “From Waste to Worth” workshop, an event organized by Luise Sanders under the Sircular project framework. The workshop brought together several EU-funded initiatives working on circularity in the built environment, including:
- Sircular, presented by Margherita Fabbri
- DeCO₂, presented by Anastasios Karamerso
- ReConstruct, presented by Yasmine Zaki
- INBUILT, presented by Marco Mori
The event featured a series of concise project presentations, followed by interactive breakout sessions. Marco Mori introduced the overarching objectives and key outputs of INBUILT, with a particular focus on the work led by LEITAT on mapping Urban Mining initiatives across the EU. During the breakout session dedicated to Urban Mining, participants engaged in a dynamic discussion with Marco on several critical aspects, such as the current maturity level of Urban Mining initiatives in Europe, key barriers hindering their broader implementation, and opportunities for scaling up Urban Mining solutions by connecting material demand with available secondary resources
The workshop fostered valuable exchanges and synergies among projects, reinforcing the importance of cross-collaboration in advancing circularity in construction.
