First INBUILT webinar is online: Integrating Life Cycle Assessment in the Design of Innovative Building Products

On 15 October 2026, the INBUILT project hosted a webinar titled "Integrating Life Cycle Assessment in the Design of Innovative Building Products", presenting results from the project. The webinar explored Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a rigorous tool to decarbonise the built environment and strategic asset for building product development, supporting innovation and market readiness.

The core goal of the INBUILT project is to reduce the environmental footprint of buildings, which requires high quality and detailed data on the life cycle impacts of individual construction products. Furthermore, over the last decade, the publication of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) has grown exponentially, not only for voluntary sustainability initiatives, but also in response to emerging regulatory requirements mandating the disclosure of verifiable environmental data.

During the webinar industry and research experts, including LCA assessors and manufacturers, shared practical insights on integrating LCA into sustainable product development, with a focus on emerging and highly innovative products developed within the INBUILT project.

Speakers

• Erwin Franquet, Full Professor, Université Côte d’Azur

• Andrea Klinge, Professor of Construction and Design, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

• Stephen Allen, Senior Lecturer, University of Bath, INBUILT Life Cycle Assessment coordinator

• Donald Chimobi Nwonu, Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Bath

Key topics and highlights

  • Understand how integrating LCA early supports innovation, not just reporting
  • Importance of good data audit trail for refining environmental hotspots LCA and trust between manufacturers and LCA assessors
  • Practical ways to reduce cost, time, and friction when developing LCA and EPDs
  • Explaining how LCA  can accelerate market adoption with practical insights from INBUILT
